no signal

Hey guys, wondering if you can help. I have a geforce fx 5500 video card with vga and dvi outs. I have no problem hooking a monitor up to the vga out, but when I try to use the dvi it has no signal. Can anyone help me with this problem and maybe explain why.

your videocard may have a bad dvi port.

try cleaning lightly with alcohol
also your card may default to the vga port try going to the manufacturers website to look for a correction to that problem
 
Have you tried running duel displays? Perhaps just set it to clone while in windows and switch the cable between the ports. Or if you have a monitor with two connections on it, you can switch between them, though DVI is usally the primary one.
