No Sound in Windows

Hi,
I did a clean install of Windows XP Pro and Ubuntu Breezy.

On windows, i attempted to play a sound, it said there was no sound device. So i went on the Device Mananger and windows installed the sound device as something like "C-Media". It says the device is working properly yet i have no sound at all, either in speaker socket or headphone socket.

I know its nothing to do with the wire/speakers because i'm on Linux now and the sound is working perfectly without ever being configured. And it worked on windows before the clean install.

If anyone has got any ideas on how to get it working, it'd be great. As i'm playing Age of Empires with no sound and its a bit weird.

Thanks, Rowan.

how?
the sound device is built-in to the motherboard.
i have no disk for it, nor do i know who made it.

Thanks, Rowan.

No, the only disks I have areXP Pro, OEM XP, moniter and printer.

I have installed XP Pro twice, the first time i did i got the sound working. All i did was let xp install it itsself and it did it but not to "C-Media" to "VIA AC'97" which working fine.

On the second install of XP it installed it as "C-Media" and when i go on update driver then choose driver and i find "VIA AC'97" it installs it and says its working but then there is no sound at all even though it says there is.

Thanks, Rowan.

YEY!
Thanks it works and its even got the manage that i had with OEM!

Now i don't have to play age of empires in silence.

Cheers, Rowan.
