Hey!

I was having problems with wirleless network at home so I got a new router (because the old one was not very good so thought that could be the problem). With my new router installed, I have much better connection speed and strength and internet seemed to be working fine for the first day!, but now the internet is going slow again :( - but the router did fix the connection problems.

So now my my pc connects fine but has slow internet, but sometimes it doesnt run slow. Do you think it can be my modem?, I dont know if its any good, but can modems affect performence like routers can?
 
yes they can, although it is not likely. if you have cable, why not connect directly to the modem. If you do you will have to power down your modem and pc, then turn on the modem, wait for the cable modem to set, turn on the pc. you will also have to do the same when you connect back with the router. If you have dsl, you can also do this you will just need to create a "dialer" in the new connection wizard. more than likely your pc is infected.
 
huh what do you mean infected? with what? I can connect pc to modem coz socket is in another room and I dont have a long lan cable.
 
sorry, i did not get the impression you were using the wireless part of the router. How is the signal strength ? yes, infected with virus, spyware.
do you have any security set in your router, someone could be surfing in on your connection. Encryption is the ONLY security measure, wep is good, pka is better.
 
yes I have wep, and my other network computers also go slowly when my goes slowly. Could it be my ISP?, coz its a friday night?

who is your isp because it sounds to me like your router is not the problem. it might be that you have a firewall up that slows it down. if it is your isp ask them how much it would cost to upgrade to a higher speed:D
