No USB

I am using a MSI 865PE/G Neo2-P MS-6728 ATX Mainboard and I cannot configure the USB to work. I have been into the BIOS trying all sorts of related settings to the USB under Integrated Peripherals. Settings now are:
USB controller -ON, USB Device Legacy Support- All Device all other devices - Enabled. I have a USB Card installed in a slot, and it works?? I have even booted using the default settings....no joy???

Intel P4 2.8 Gig
1 GB Corsair RAM
WD 80 GB IDE HD
WD 160 SATA HD
ATI AIW 9800 Pro

Did it work at one time? There is a problem with the 865 chipsets-- the southbridge blows when some device(s) draws a lot of current through the USB.

The good news is that only the USB is afffected, the bad news, of course, is that you don't have USB functionality through the motherboard.

If you are eligible for warranty replacement, then go for it. I recommend using an externally powered USB hub (and pluge everything into it) to prevent the same occurring again.

Otherwise, use the add-on card.

yes, it did work at one time and the last time I tried to set up my photo printer on usb..it would not. prior to that, I used the front ports for my mini cruzers.

another thing...when my computer man tried to clone my IDE DRIVE to SATA DRIVE using GHOST , he could not configure it....I had to load everything in manually...and I sometimes have a problem having both drives recognized.

I have solved the problem by reloading the chipset, but I shall take your advice and use a remote usb on the card rather than take the risk of overloading in future.

tks for your advice......FW
