No visual on screen

Hey everyone, I'm new to this, and I've seen people do things not in the rules of forums before so if I have done something I shouldn't have please just let me know :)

Anyway, I attempted to build my own pc not long ago, nothing special, mostly done to a budget. It has all been set up now, and when i plug it in and turn everything on, the processor fan spins, the power supply, the graphics card etc and all the lights I think are supposed to be on come on. I can not figure out why I am not getting a visual on the screen. The graphics card has a DVI port, but I used an adaptor I bought to connect it to a vga cable. I switched this for an adaptor to hdmi to ensure it was not the adaptor or the cable. I still got no visual. It is as if there is no signal being sent through, even though the graphics card fan is spinning and working.

Specs:
Asus AX78 Motherboard
Radeon HD 4850
AMD athlon x2 3Ghz (AM2+ socket)
2x1Gb DDR2 RAM
2x512Mb DDR2 RAM
Xenta ATX-700Watt

I am also noticing a beep as it powers up. Just one. I'm not sure if this is relevant.
Thank you for anyone who thinks they can help :)

Well one beep indicates a normal post, try turning the pc on, after you press the on button tap either the f2 key or delete key, and see if it will load the bios.

Try another graphics card if you have one, if not, remove your 4850 and then try the onboard video if your board and CPU support it. Failing that, remove both of your RAM sticks, then put one in. See if it works, if it does, put the other one in, and if it doesn't work with both, you've found your problems. It could be that your RAM just needs reseating or one of your sticks has died, or one of the slots on your mobo is shot.
