I'm guessing my power supply is going bad but I just want to some clarifaction on my guess. My power supply has a high pitch whistle and when I turn the computer off theres still a constant high pitch whistle.
If you are sure its coming from the power supply, I would definately get it replaced. If the power supply actually has a shut off switch in the back you could turn it off but if its making a noise, I wouldn't use it.
I'm not sure exactly, i'm just guessing because when my dads was bad it did the same thing then he went to the local pc store and they tested it and it was bad so thats why I assume its the power supply but i'm not sure. If it is the power supply is there any harm to my system if I still use it until it totally crashes??
dont think i would wait that long. yes it will destroy the mother board and cpu. besides something else possibly. if ya get one then spend enough to have some protection. did ya disconnect and blow it out yet. if you have it on the floor that may be the problem. for sure it needs to blown out once a year.
minimum.
i had the same problem when I was living in germany. Its just going to get louder and louder until the computer wont power on... def get it replaced... in the meanwhile you can beat it with a hammer and it should make it less quiet, or at least it helped me for a month
I'm going to start looking around for a new power supply. What are brands I should go with for psu's? I'm looking on newegg and there saying the Corsair psu's are voted best for 2009. Should I go with a Corsair psu or are there better brands? Its for the system in my signiture. How big should I go also?
Corsairs are great. And for that system, basically any Corsair unit would do (their lowest is 400watt right?) If you want some headroom then something in the five to six hundred range.
