Non boot issue

After finishing the build of my pc off, i had an issue with the cpu not being detected by the motherboard. I sent the chip back, and it came back as working. i then sent the motherboard back to the manufacturer who say it has been repaired.

I still get the same issue that the mobo is not detecting the cpu.

The mobo is a dfi lanparty nf4 sli-d and the chip is an S939 X2 4200+

Is there any other componet that could be be faulty that could be causing the mobo not to find the cpu?

What do you mean it's not finding the CPU? Is nothing coming on the screen? If that's the case, there are countless other things it could be BESIDES the processor. RAM, PSU, video, a short somewhere, improper grounding, a bad drive(CD/DVD/Hard drive) an old BIOS that doesn't support the processor...to name a few.
 
yeah, i did put the cpu in the right way, on the S939s it has a gold mark to locate it.

On the lanparty board there is 4 leds that light up to show the boot process and when all 4 light stay on it means it is trying to detect the cpu thats what made me think its not detecting it.

On many of the Socket 939 boards when first going to install a dual core model cpu the latest bios update is generally needed if the cpu isn't detected immediately upon installation. The board is not at fault. You simply have the original bios version running at this time. You need to go to the DFI support site and download a newer version that supports dual core cpus. The tool for flashing the bios will also be found there. Review the user manual for instruction on flashing the update.
 
I didnt see how i could update the bios on the board, when the pc wouldnt boot up, so i emailed dfi and they sent the new bios out to me in chip form, i installed it and the issue was still the same.

Could there be a possibility that the psu could be causing the issue, or not?

right, i tried the mobo out of the case and found out it works, meaning a bad earth, now all i have to do is work out why i have 1 long beep and 2 short beeps from the mobo and no display.

1 long 2 short most of the time is a video error. If it boots now it sound like you had it shorted to the case. Did you put the standoffs in the right places?
 
yeah, it was a short in the case, ive now sorted all the issues and got the display on.
