Noob build help

I am kicking around the idea of building a computer. I have no idea where to start. I will tell you what I can though. The computer will be used for everything from surfing to gaming. I want something that can run any game out there. If I need to make the settings low to run them, then so be it. I also need to get an OS (windows 7) I want to use my tv as the monitor if you guys don't think that would be a problem. My tv is a LG 32LD350. I would like to keep it around the $600 mark with the OS if possible. I am pretty flexible with the components needed for the build. I don't need a great looking case either. Oh and I am located in America. I hope that is enough info if you need more let me know. Thanks in advance.
 
Well as for the OS, if you’re a student, there are plenty of websites where you can buy windows 7 for £40, (and same for office pro 2010). If you’re not a student, you can buy OEM versions, just type OEM windows 7 for lower priced versions (It is of no disadvantage).

Using a TV is fine, many people do that nowadays, saves cost etc.

As for CPU, you can get a core i7 for about £170, so $265 ish for 2.8Ghz, might vary in US a little more. If that's pushing the money go for a lower rating, that will not hurt (though extreme core series will be out of your price range to allow everything else).

Case if not bothered, $30 eBay or something.

Then Motherboard must have socket LG1156 if you choose a processor of that sub series, Wikipedia always explains that well: Other ci7 may use one of 3 sockets.

For motherboards in the past i used ones made by ASRock, which were very good (bought from other sites of course).
 
Just one question. Are you actually comfortable with building a computer from scratch, when the parts arrive. Also need to be able to trouble if there are any issues.

I have no issue with doing it. I will learn on the run. I use to be an amusement machine technician. I worked on video games, pinball machines, jukeboxes etc... Most of that was self taught and I have been a mechanic for many years so I can troubleshoot and I do have the tools. Besides I am on a forum that has helped many noobs like me before. :D I will try anything once.
