hey,

Me and my bro are building a new computer. we've never built one before but i know what goes where etc. all i want to know is if the parts are compatible with each other or not?

Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-K8V Ultra-939 AGP 8CHANNEL
It's got 1 Agp slot and 5 pci slots

Processor
AMD (Venice) Athlon 64 3500+ 939
I got the same 939 pin socket :P i know about that malarky

Hardrive
Seagate ST3250824AS 250GB 7200RPM SATA300

Graphics card
XFX GEFORCE 7800GS - XT gamers edition AGP 256MB DDR3 DVI TV VGA

Sound Card
Creative Soundblaster Audigy 4 OEM PCI Soundcard

Memory
2 x CRUCIAL 1GB DDR PC3200 400MHz 184-PIN UNBUFF 128MX64
Memory Modules

O/S
And Microsoft XP Home

the rest of the pc is pretty snazzy. an Aspire gaming case with some 12" UV Dual Cold Cathode lights and biohazard fan guards :)

a 19" Philips monitor with 8ms resonse time

a Logitech gaming mouse and steel mousemat

Creative Speakers I-Trigue 3400 2.1

its also having 1 'DVD/RW' drive and 1 'DVD Rom' drive so i wont wear the drives out by just using one for everything, and it also having a 'Floppy Drive /USB / Media Drive SM/MS/MD/CF/MM/SD'

what does everyone think? i would like to know if the parts are compatible. ive got it all ready to order just want some advice on its compatibility, its costing me £1250 ($2,195) and i dont want it to have gone wrong and blow up or something lol

thanks in advance :)

Im not sure about compatibilty yet as I havent read it all yet but I would reccomend a PCI-E board, cos when DX10 and games like that come out in about 8 months your 7800GS might not be able to handle it and If it don't you'll have to upgrade ( meaning going PCI-E so you'll have to spend money on a board AND alot on a card!) would be a good idea to go PCI-E now so you don't have to upgrade as soon as DX10 comes out....cos seing as its AGP the speed wont be there meaning you have less chance of being able to play DX10 games.

ok what motherboard does anyone reccommend.

btw the only thing thats taking up the pci slots will be a usb 2.0 card and a sound card, the graphics card is going on the agp. will it matter then?

what do you mean the graphics card is going on the agp:confused: , do you mean your new card is going on the PCI-E? Cos you don't get AGP and PCI-E on standard PCI-E boards, you do if you pay a LOT of money. Plus you can't put your APG card in your PCI-E socket if you didn't already know that!

lol no i ment the graphics card slots into the agp slot as it is a 'XFX GEFORCE 7800GS - XT gamers edition AGP 256MB'

oh yer to TheChef, it does have a PSU i just didnt really think it was that important as i have it sorted

but if ya wanna know what it is, it is a '550w ATX Silent Neon PSU/12cm fan/PPFC'

First things first. Your PSU is one of the most important and overlooked parts in your computer. it needs to be reliable, so you don't have to worry about a fluctuation in the current/voltage will fry your PSU. The standard PSUs in cases are almost always pieces of junk, so look into spending more than 30 pounds on one.

Secondly, where are you getting your prices? that seems high for a 2000 dollar computer.

Last, look into the AMD X2 3800+ cpu. it costs around $295 here, and has the best price/performance ratio for cpus.

A good PCIe x16 graphics card is the 7800gt or the 7900gt, or maybe a X1900XT.

Any more questions?

i sed ''As i have it sorted'' lol

My PSU costs about £25 ish and has had very good reviews

im happy with what ive got and i dont wanna spend anymore or any less.

no body has answered the question which i created this thread for any way lol

are the parts compatible with each other? :)

lol thanks :P

i want it to be able to handle next gen games, and maybe after a few months i will get another 1gb RAM Module to help along with the fun making

I think everyones telling me to get a pci-e mobo :P

the problem is there arnt that many on ebuyer that i want, i wud get it from another site but i want to keep the order as a whole so i dnt have parts coming from different places at different times, ive found a few but im still deciding on it. maybe a gigabyte one or an asus. still not sure. im looking to spend about £60 - £70 on it.

lol sry man but i dont like the speakers go with the logitech z-3 or z-4 or somethin with more power the logitech z-2300 - y not 5.1 though???

i dont wanna spend too much money, im already spending about £1250 on the whole thing.

btw its me using the speakers not you lol :P

i want speakers that are small yet powerful, some that dont take up too much space. i think they are pretty damn good:

8.5 Watt for each satellite speaker & 1 x subwoofer that is 24 Watt

thats 41 watts in total which is pretty good as the speakers i have right now are only 4Watt each and they are loud. and i cant have speakers too powerful coz my neighbors will keep complaining.

why spend more money on more power if i cant use it?

aight that is fine but i would still go with logitech but u want space and those 2 satilites are small aight good day
