Noob needs help buying.

Hello, I'm looking for a PC that i can plug into my TV via HDMI, I have no room for a monitor, as I have a small room and want something more reliable then last laptop. I found one on currys that seemed like everything I need for the job. I only plan on using the computer for social networking, youtube and maybe a couple of games.

Intel® Core™ i3-550 (3.2 GHz)
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Memory: 3GB
Hard drive: 640GB.

Most of it means nothing to me.. but i stumbled across some on eBay claiming to be 9.6 GHZ and so on with 1TG hard drive etc for cheaper! When I searched on google not a lot come up but a few forums saying about how they can't believe people fall for these scams. This is where I got really confused, they discussed about how the different cores are 3.2ghz each and it wouldn't be anymore powerful then a standard one.

Sorry if i confuse you, as i don't really have a clue what i'm talking about.. But if anyone could give me any help it would be appreciated. Thanks.
 
9.6GHz... I think not. Clock speed is not multiplied by number of cores. Clock speed is really irrelevant. One CPU could be at 10GHz, but if it's architecture can only do 100 things per clock, and another CPU is at 1GHz, but can do 1000 things per clock, they would perform roughly the same (and excuse my really poor example)

Give us your budget and intended uses for a computer and we can help you choose a good one, or help you build one from scratch if you desire.

My budget is around £320-£400. I don't need like a high speed gaming computer or anything like that, it's going to be used mostly for just browsing the Internet, Facebook, Windows live messenger, Skype etc. Maybe a few games like Football Manager, possibly Photoshop if it runs smoothly, but I'd like the computer to be speedy with multi tasking.
My last laptop cost me around £700 and it was useless, lasted a year and I treated it as I would a child.
I could send the links to the two computers I'm looking at if it would help?

I suggest you get a machine with a better video card.
for your budget, you would probably be better to build the machine yourself
 
And don't be scared to build one yourself, everyone thinks it is so hard when it's really not that difficult once you see where everything fits.
