My computer just started to have a problem with downloading media files. When I click a link to download a small movie or audio file off the internet, my computer keeps trying to save it as an mp2 file, even though it is a different file type. Is there anything I can do here? Thanks

Well, it can only save files as what they are listed online. If it's trying to download and mp2 file then it must be an mp2. When you download it just change the file extension to what you think it is supposed to be. (Right click-->Rename-->Change mp2 to what you want, see if it works)

Or you IE options have been changed ...

i dont think anything in IE automatically changes anything to an mp2.

If the file that your downloading is a .wav, and it thinks its a .mp2, then when you save it, save it as "songtitle.wav"

Usually this problem is associated with a certain website which is having some problems with the extensions of the files you download. Do you experience the same problem when trying to download from any website, or just from a specific website?

I agree with geoff5093, just rename the file extension manually to the correct extension or even download it as .mp2 and then rename it after being downloaded on your PC, it will work normally.
