Noob to Vista

Hello, I've had a look and I'm sure these have probably been asked before but I was unable to find answers to them.

I am thinking of buying a new pc, it comes with Windows Vista Home Premium. Now from reading I dont know if this is 32 or 64 bit. Im guessing it would be the 32bit and I would need to contact microsoft for the upgrade disk to get the 64 bit version upgrade or something? A tad confusing for me, sorry.

Also reading on forums I've been told some programs dont work on vista and some dont work with 64bit vista? Are there any I need to be for warned about? I mainly play games, cod2, bf2142 and cnc3, use xfire, ventrillo for gaming and use various other programs such as photoshop. Will these all work? Are there any programs which wont?

It does, I used it when I had Vista with no problems. Off the top of my head the only programs I had issues with were some CD burning programs, BF2/2142, and a few other not so common apps.

BF2 installs and runs fine, but I had alot of issues with playing online because of PunkBuster. I dont know if they fixed that issue yet or not, but you couldnt play online for more then a few minutes before getting kicked.
 
Battlefield 2142? Wat issue was that?

Also can sum1 answer this for me:

Ohh, i had that problem but i think i fixed it with a update on the bf2 site.

If the computer your going to buy comes wtih 32bit i would stick with that for now instead of spending around $120 for the oem version of 64bit. Realy right now there is no need for 64bit and maybe not even within the next few years.

It happened with BF2 and BF2142, since they are the same game pretty much. But I dont think I updated the game, so that may have been the reason.

I havent read this entire thread, but I will say this. If you are going to buy Vista, and the price difference isnt much, always go with Vista x64 and not the 32-bit version, to make it more "future proof".
 
What about the game crysis, isnt that 64 bit? Or would it only need a 64bit processor not 64 bit operating system?

Yeah, but i believe hes going to buy a prebuilt ie: Hp, compaq, ect.... if you are going to build yourself go with 64bit otherwise if the system comes with 32 i dont think there is no need to upgrade at this time...atleast when your talking $120 :P, Right?

I'm buying from a company prebuilt as I cant be bothered building mine this time and the company is actually cheaper than buying parts on there own. Their site just says "windows vista home premium" doesnt say if its 32 or 64. Im sure I read somewhere if you buy 32 bit you can contact microsfot and they will send you a 64 bit upgrade for £50?

If a program is 64-bit, then it needs a 64-bit CPU and OS. If you have a Core 2 Duo for instance, but only Vista 32-bit, then it wont work.

Also if I was to get Windows Vista home premium 32 bit, would I be able to upgrade to Windows Vista home premium 64 bit or would I need a fresh install?
