ok
I got Norton Internet Security 2012 and not only did it fail to block a zbot trojan it even scanned the file as safe...Malwarebytes found and removed...

I tried the same on my old computer and Kasper-sky found it right away and then trend even blocked the site...this is listed by Norton as a known trojan but it now makes me suspicious of all the number 1 reviews Norton Gets..

after this i can't trust Norton and to be honest if you check their forums the software seems to be infested with bugs:eek:

Norton any-year are not so great. A number of free programs work so much better than Norton and use less resources. Here's some recommended ones:

AVG
Avast!
Microsoft security Essentials
Kaspersky

One of those, along with Malwarebytes, will be better than Norton.

Makes me wonder how they get all hose good reviews..

Norton is like AOL people used it in the beginning and it was actually good back then but its been surpassed by so many free products yet older people still use it and like it hence why they are still getting good reviews. I would go with any of the above recommended solutions over Norton any day.

I am using McAfee VirusScan console enterprise for years now and I never got a single virus for MANY years already.I guess that explains why I payed 5000 dollars for it back then lol.

As for Norton,it sucks!I had it for a while and it would always find ZERO viruses lol while McAfee would automatically detect them and delete them.

Still the way antivirus software works depends on your knowledge about computers and the way you configure all the options in the antivirus software.
It's not always enough to JUST INSTALL the antivurs software...;)
All those options are not there for nothing :)
That is what MOST people don't get. They think that just beacause they have installed an antivirus software that they are automatically protected and that is not true.If the options are not correctly configured and if all the access protections are not turned ON,it is like you almost don't even have an antivirus software lol.And later people complain that the antivirus software sucks and I ask them:"Did you turn the antivirus on?"
And they always answer:"I need to turn it on???"

LOL!!!

I had been using norton for a couple of years with everything on..i'm surprised the anti virus testing labs rave about it so much

I used to use norton, but it's a bloated piece of shit that slows down the whole computer, pops up with annoying notifications every 5 seconds, interrupts my games and then doesn't actually protect against viruses.
We're on Kaspersky now, and that's awesome. It just sits in the system tray, and chills out.
Debating whether to install it when i re-install Windows, or just sit with Security Essentials.

I used to use Norton until it prevented me from installing a game from a source that I trusted. I seriously doubt that Bioware was selling me a virus for 60 bucks. I searched online until I found Avast! and now I love it. I've been virus free for several years now and appreciate the free, fast updates Avast! provides. I would recommend them over Norton any day.

If you are looking for a "trusted" source that Microsoft approves, Security Essentials is good enough and will protect you from mostly everything. It's on all of the computers at work and so far, has yet to catch anything. Though, with any decent anti-virus software, the correct settings and smart browsing, you should be protect from just about anything.
