I want to clone a backup Windows serial ATA hard drive to another serial ATA drive that has an additional Ubuntu 10.04 partition. Could I clone the Windows 7 partition to another hard drive if it had the Grub bootloader and would it still work without any other modifications? I do not care if the Ubuntu works. I just want a backup of the Windows partition that works.

I would recommend you to use Ubuntu directly from CD to simply copy the entire Windows partition to an empty folder on your second HDD.
On that way you can be 100% sure that nothing won't mess up.
I cloned my HDD that way and it works perfectly. And the most important thing...it's free =)

S.T.A.R.S. can you give me a how to on exactly how you did this? Will doing it this way copy the master boot record and everything with no further modifications needed?

It would be too much to explain that here, but I took pictures with my sellphone of EVERY SINGLE STEP so I can send them to you tomorrow if you want.

As for MBR,all you need to have is the disk of Windows OS because that will be used to create MBR.
But don't worry about it.Everything will make sense when you take a look at my pictures.Just let me know when you want me to send them to you.

Cheers!

I can upload pictures for you and then give you a download link on your E-mail if you want.Just give me your E-mail address in the private messages.
Or we can always use MSN or Skype...

Thanks for the advice MyCattMaxx. I cloned my Windows XP from a Serial ATA hard drive to a Parallel ATA drive. I then rewrote the master boot record on the Parallel ATA hard drive using the program EasyBCD. It worked. What a great program!
