Norton is a hog but.......

Okay, I have been using Symantec Systemworks since 2001 and never had a virus. I know that it does love to munch resources, which is the downside.

The one thing I like is
-defragmentor
-sweeper
-check for windows problems
-one button cleanup

That being said, can you still say that Norton is not worth it due to using lots of resources, or what do you use for defrag, etc. ? (xp stuff?)

Thanks!

my norton got infected & didnt show up anything virus etc. then i used something else & found lots of problems

I really dont like norton. A lot of viruses are made so that it infects norton itself so it never comes up with viruses, while the virus itself makes itself at home. I like Nod32 the best.

Try norton 2005 with just the antivirus and firewall you dont need all that other crap! I dont get it when everyone says resourse hog? When my system is idle I am using 229mb of ram and my cpu is at zero, I actually uninstalled norton once and installed avg just for $hits and giggles and my system was using 235mb of ram and I seen absolutely no increase in speed or performance. When I uninstalled norton my pc at idle was using 221mb of ram.

So tell me what resources is everyone talking about?

I have a wireless router, so there is no need for a firewall software program. It actually interferes when I use my laptop so I disabled all of it. The Linksys WRT54G has a built in firewall.

I installed AVG and it works great, I like it.

Get Kaspersky, i find it very good on system resources and has excellent protection.

The new version 6 is even better, with Intergity control and installation Sheild.

Use the windows defrag to degrag system and there are other numerous software for clean and tune up system, ie TuneUp Utilities 2006

I once had norton and will never go back.

i agree, i like zone alarm

with norton they tessted it, they put 2 of the most comon trojans and viruses on a computer and it never picked them up

It's not the CPU that gets hogged by Norton, it's mostly the RAM. When i had Norton Internet Security 2005, it used about 40-60MB of my RAM when its not doing anything.

Right now im using AVG Free, and it works great. It also uses alot less resources.

he 4 got to show that in the screen shot. hehe

take the screen shot again but this time show your ram usage, then youll see what were onbout
