Not sure about monitors...

I have an older 1680x1050 Acer monitor that has been great to me over the last several years. Thinking about upgrading now though...

What is more important, a fast 144hz refresh rate or a higher res, like 1440 maybe?

fyi this is my rig:

Intel Core i7-2600K(8MB) Overclocked to 4.1GHz
8GB DDR3 at 1333MHz
Nvidia GTX 970
1TB SATA 3Gb/s (7,200RPM) 32MB Cache
875W Multi-GPU
Windows 7

I personally prefer better resolution over refresh rate. I'd get at least a 1080p monitor depending on what you play then a 1440p monitor. It will be a huge visual jump.

144hz is nice but iit requires more than 2x Gpu power than 60fps.

I guess it's between a 1440p or a 144hz monitor. The extra speed would be nice so I can game in 3d..just worried that 3d gaming is "dead" even tho I'm a big fan of 3d in general..

You can always get the best of both worlds.. 120Hz refresh + 1440p. Means requirments for 3D and better looking quality games.

+ this thread belongs under video cards n monitors haha.. :P

I'm leaning towards the 1440p, but can't decide! My 1680x1050 monitor is 60hz so I wouldn't know how great/overrated 144hz is. Fyi I'm going with a 27inch

Your rig should be good for 1440p 60fps but not 1440p 120 or 144hz. At 1440p 144hz it actually requires more power to run than 4k. Similarly it requires more power than 1440p 60fps on 1080p 144hz.

What kind of games do you play and what figures do you get? Obviously no point getting 144hz if your PC only does 120 on the games you play.

For pc it's a bit of everything. Rpg's mostly. Doing far cry 4 right now but not 100% sure on fps. It's on ultra and smooth as butter but almost def not as high as 120
