Not sure how this works

Hello, my name is kimberly, I was at the craigslist forum earlier in the day getting extremely frustrated by the people there that kept saying I was a troller whatever that means. Anyway here is my plight and I assure you I mean no ill will at all. I screwed up big time. I screwed my pc up so much that I am just depressed. I had my sons friend over here who thinks he knows what he is doing because he is an IT school dropout, long story short he tinkered around for 5 1/2 hours with it until stuff didn't run right again. So my old ass thinking she can fix things got on here this morning and reformatted according to some instructions I found online and wiped everything out. Here is my dilemma, I have no vga controller no audio controller no pci controller. All my lettering is huge. I am literally in tears. Not because my computer is not working properly, but because I work online for askmefast.com. It is detrimental that I have the computer in proper running order by at least ten o'clock tonight or we wont be making rent on time. I need to work all night and into tomorrow. I know I messed up, believe me I have beat myself up all day over this crap. Here is the info that I know. This is a dell pc there is a little tag on the side of the pc that states x1023533 also 00045-510-068-106 I have spent the last two hours downloading the newest internet explorer that some sight made me do before I could download the vga controller. I promise I don't know where to turn. I don't have the money to fix this. I need guidance please. Please. I keep getting the blue death screen my son keeps calling it when I try to download the audio controller. I don't know what to do. I am not asking for a free handout, I get paid friday. Help if you can . -----Depressed in Indiana

I moved your post to a new thread. What is the model of dell you have? The numbers you listed is what is on the certificate of authenticity for the Operating System. Look on the front of the case and it should tell you the model number somewhere even on the back. What operating system is on it? XP? Vista? windows 7?

I am so sorry I just realized I posted in someone elses thread, I apologize. I guess I am just not going to find any help with this unless I go to the store and spend rent on a new pc. Thank you anyway for your time

ok it is running xp and I will look now for what model

Optiplex gx270 is the numbers on front

John thank you so much for taking your time to help me I really appreciate you

Dells usually have a sticker listing a service tag or an express service code. If you can get me any of those numbers that will tell us what you have. Then we can direct you to the correct drivers.

Here are the drivers you need to download and install.

chipset - http://www.dell.com/support/drivers...0?driverId=Y4NJD&osCode=ww1&fileId=2961893832

Sound - http://www.dell.com/support/drivers...?driverId=R58182&osCode=ww1&fileId=2731127076

As far as the video driver goes, I will need you to do something so I can tell what exact video you have in your system.

Go into device manager, right click on vga controller and click on properties, then click on the details tab. I need the 4 digit vendor and device id numbers. They look like this.

dev_xxxx ven_yyyy

Where x and y are numbers/letters. Give me the 4 digits for both and I'll link you to the video driver.

Ok so I am too chicken to poke my head inside with the tower running but I see a label like on a motherboard of sorts that says creative labs also a sticker on the rear reads J2N6F51

John I am just so tired after today please I am sorry to sound so blonde, because I am not but how can I get to device manager?

Just follow my links from my prior post. However, it seems you may have a creative labs sound card instead of the onboard. I need 4 digit vendor and device id numbers for the sound card as well. Don't download any drivers yet.

Right click on "my computer" click on properties, click on hardware tab, click device manager button.

You could download this program, Speccy and run it. It'll list everything you need to know about the internals of your PC.

Also Windows Update usually look for updated drivers for your devices. That might help.

To get to the device manager, you right click on "my computer" and select manage. When that screen comes up, device manager is on the left hand side 4 entries down (if memory holds. Just look for device manager)

Kimmy, never ever use Craigslist forum for computer help.
I have seen them give out info on purpose that will mess your system up.

Is there a set sequence I need to install these?

I was truly beat down in there today, very cruel people I can assure you. I won't be going back first and last for me. Thank you for the advice

It's why I'm here, thats why all of us are here. The members here are very dedicated to help others.

After installing those drivers make sure you check the device manager for any entries that still have a yellow question mark next to it. If there is then I need the 4 digit codes for them.

How did you download that driver? Do not use the download manager, use the single download method. Now try redownloading that driver.
