Not sure which IP address to give friends

Okay. I'm another one of those people that wants to set up a minecraft server but I'm having trouble. The problem is that my router is set on the other end of the house and I have yet to run Ethernet cable across the house. So, instead I have a small laptop I got for free setup running another LAN connection into my desktop. I've tried setting up static ip addresses for both my desktop and the laptop but nothing worked even though I copied the numbers exactly from ipconfig /all in command prompt. Basically, the router itself doesn't see my desktop. It sees the laptop and the laptop sees the desktop. I want to know which ip address I'll need to give my friends. Will it be my desktop's or my laptop's? As a side note, he's actually tried both but nothing worked. I have set port forwarding on from the router. Do I need to set a separate port forwarding on my laptop for the LAN between it and my desktop?
If you could give me tips on getting a static ip address set up for this that would be awesome, but mostly I want to know which IP address I should give and if I need to set a separate port forwarding somehow.

Thanks,

EDIT: Also, if it helps, the desktop is running windows 7 64 bit and the laptop is running Windows XP 64 bit.

Well which computer is hosting the server? On that computer go to this.

Give them that. As long as your router doesn't restart it should keep that address. If it stops working, go to that website again and give them the new one.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Alright. Thanks you a lot. I haven't actually gotten to test it but I ended up staying awake for an extra hour or so. I guess that my Windows 7 computer was getting internet but somehow wasn't seeing that it was going through my laptop to get it. Apparently, I also didn't have the port open, so it wouldn't have let him in anyway. Thanks for telling me which ip to give him though. I was giving him multiple different ip addresses to try.
