Notebook Impact Damage - Australia

Hey there, i have an ASUS N61J Series notebook which recently suffered some pretty severe impact damage to the Display. It is a "16" HD/BL" display.

Contacted ASUS concerning repairs and was told impact damage isn't covered by warranty (kind of expected it) and that repairs would cost around $800-$850 plus labour. Considering that i only paid $1250 for the laptop in the first place I'm really not seeing the point of going through ASUS in order to try and maintain my warranty. Just wanting to get some input on some of my other options if any. Is it practical (or possible) to try to repair it myself or are there any 3rd party companies that would do something for cheaper?

any input appreciated.

I know a person who had a damaged laptop like this (i know this because they came to me to fix it lol.) And what i told them was to buy a new laptop. Next time they rang they had an asus i5 laptop nice specs and only cost the $1000 from JBHifi maybe give them a look and get a brand new machine altogether.

Righto, maybe it might just be cheaper to get it repaired. I only bought the laptop around 2 months ago, and i'm not really wanting to downgrade or anything (don't think i'd find anything similar at $800-$900 yet). Besides it won't be my money, it will be the one responsible for the damage lol. Just trying to make it cheaper for them because they didn't do it on purpose...It's still completely usable, just really annoys me.
