Notebook Memory for Acer TravelMate 240

I received a stick of 256mb of PC2700 DDR ram for my laptop for christmas.
When I installed it, along with my original 256, I now only get a total of 496mb's of RAM. Is this normal or is it something I should be concerned with? They both run at the same speeds as well. Thanks

16 meg of memory might be for the onboard video. if it is then it is normal.

Have you installed a floppy drive on that laptop because I also have that laptop?
