Notebook - on/off bug??

hi there
i have an old Asus PIII Notebook. It normally worked perfectly, slow but reliable. Some time ago, it started to behave strange: some days it started smoothly, some days it does not start at all. Now I tried to clean everything, did the hijackthislog, the malwarebytes cleaning, I have a Antivirus scanner activated, so all is done...
nothing helps so far. Now I heared that there is sth like a on/off bug/virus. I dont know much about computers. Is there anybody there who knows what my problem could be? a virus? a hardware problem?

thanx for the help...if somehow possible, i want to avoid a new installation

Hi!

I had the same problem with my laptop (Fujitsu Siemens) about a year ago. I was lucky enough that the warranty hadn't run out yet so I sent it in and they changed the motherboard. Maybe you could have the same problem? In my case the laptop started for about ½-1 sec before dying again so I couldn't even get as far as the bios.

no my problem is: on some days it starts smoothly, and on some, not at all (not one second)...just the ventilationsystem starts noisily...to switch it off, i have to unplug it and take the battery out...otherwise, it will just keep going...
u know, it is 7yrs old...so no warranty on it...
