Notebook screen does not light up

I have a Gateway M-6824 notebook. Its screen does not light up. I have hooked it to another monitor with no luck. I have changed out the memory, still does not light up. Shinning a bright light unto the screen shows nothing.
I can hear the computer boot up and all the small lamps flash. One difference when I turn it on is that I hear three beeps. When the computer was working well it never beeped when booted up. This notebook is about 6 years old.
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
 
Its a start. If its turned on try tilting the screen all the way back. then tilt forward slowly and watching the screen. Will it turn on at any time during the tilt?
 
Thanks tremmor for the idea. I tried it but no luck. I am wondering what the three new beeps mean upon start up?
 
3 beeps is a memory issue I believe. Might be a motherboard issue if you have replaced the memory though. Try known good memory.
