Nothing after POST - need help asap

Got someone coming to buy my sigrig tomorrow, so earlier tonight I reformatted and tried to install Ubuntu 10.01 on it. Installer crashed and failed and went into the desktop mode, like the preview. Anyway after restarting nothing happens. Machine POSTS then goes into a black screen and just sits there. Tried installing from an XP disk as well and the same thing happens.

About to go to sleep but I'll def need a fix in the morning before the guy comes to pick up. The only thing I haven't tried is changing the boot order and booting from the hard disk. I'd do it now but I really need to get some sleep.
 
Now as I think of it. When you install or attempt to install Linux, it changes the hard drive file system which I believe on a Linux system is ext2. You might have to run the mbr command from a created dos disk or windows disk.
