Novice needs help with fax modem

Hi all, when i start by saying that i know nothing about computers i really mean it, so this question may be really stupid...anyway.

I am trying to send a fax using the fax console in XP, however, my PC does not have a modem as we connect to the internet via broadband. The fax is connected to the PC via USB.

I've been told (by dell) that the fax console is trying seek a modem but as there isn't one installed i have to find a way of bypassing this..can anyone help?

So do you not have a dial-up fax compatible modem connected to you PC?
And when you say the fax is connected to the PC via USB for use as a printer/scanner, if so then it is unlikely that you will be able to use it to send a fax. It sounds like ou need to buy a fax compatibl dial up modem and install it on your PC, then it will be recognised in the wizard and you should be able to send faxes

OK, thanks for the info.
I purchased an external fax modem and have installed it, however, the windows XP fax console doesnt support it and i have to send faxes via the communication programme that came with the modem.
Do you know how i can tell my XP operating system that for all faxes use this particular communications prgramme?
