Now that MAC uses Windows, Does that mean there prone to more viruses?

OK, now that we all know that MAC used to use only Apple OS. That meant that there wouldn't be so many viruses, but now that there using Windows. Doesn't that mean they're as suceptible to viruses now as PC is?

WHat?! I dont think MACs use windows OS. Do you mean intel processors? The answer is no.

Well the mac wont contract any current windows viruses but now that Apple is trying to compete with MS in the mainstream computer market and more people are getting Macs, new viruses will probably start popping up on OSX as well as Windows.

Oh,...........Would you guys go over to the MAC side? And they say MAC is better for digital imaging. Was that only true untill now because MAC was the first to come up with (I think it is the 64bit processor that made a few more colors in the color spectum show that the 32bit didn't-And if it's not that then tell me still what is the one thing that enables comuters to show those last few collors) but now PC is using that technolagy?

I think that is total BS. Once you get up to 32 bit color quality, you will not notice any difference. I would never go to MAC. Yea they are more reliable, but windows you can customize more and linux you can customize even further. I mean there cool, but the internet on them is slow as hell and they cost a fortune.

The color spectrum is really a limitation of the monitor and gfx card rather than the CPU. The Mac was always hailed as a great imaging comp and video editing comp because before now it was really the only viable solution for a comp with a whole LOT of RAM. You can get a max of 64GB (or was it 32GB) of RAM on high-end macs, also its been said that memory management in Mac OS is much better than Windows. I'm sure with PCs becoming 64-bit there will be PC workstations just as powerful as Mac workstations and probably cheaper.

O cool. Well the answer is still no because if you got a virus on a computer with MAC and windows, the virus would be on windows.

This thread is a mess. Mac's can run Windows XP and the Mac OS, its a dual boot option which allows you to select which os you want to use. If you aquire a virus on Windows XP, then you will suffer the same consiquences as a normal PC user. However, I don't think it would effect the Mac OS.

I've got an iMac since the new Macs have Intel CPUs I did a partition and installed WinXP on it and wherever I start the computer I hold the option key (Alt) and it will give me a choice of what system to boot into; Mac OS X or WinXP.

Sorry to bring this up, but it's one of my pet peeves:

Mac isn't an acronym, so you type it like Mac, not MAC.

Thanks for the spelling lesson. (I'm horrible at spelling-I got a spell check thing on the tool bar)

Yeah, macs can run Windows- not windows apps.
If you needed your Mac to actually run Windows apps, you can make an attempt to complie the WINE sources (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=6241&package_id=77449) for Apple's kernel from Darwin. It probably won't work, because it's a Mac, but you can try. It should be something like "./configure ; make ; make install" but I can't really be sure. You should be happy then Mac os X (which is more than a Unix distro and an actual OS) is based off Unix and has gcc and make preinstalled.
If it requires anything else, your doomed. How many programs run on a Mac?
Last I checked, I could count the ones not made by Apple with my fingers...
Oh well...
