NSIS error

One of my colleagues been getting NSIS error and am getting really tired of it.
From the web, most sites told me to do a scan, clear temp, disable antivirus, clear cache and whatnot, i did all those including checkdisk.
but it doesn't work. am already backing up to format (it needed a format anyways) :P

now for the future references, what is a common fix for nsis ?

edit : i didn't go to command prompt to do the /ncrc thingy but is that really needed ?

The first thing to know there is what installer was being run when that appeared. A corrupted installer will see that message generated. For the command at the Run prompt one short blog with comments also seen states:

"The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus.
You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy.
It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch (NOT RECOMMENDED)." http://www.iis-aid.com/forums/internet_technologies/iis_aid_php_installer/nsis_error

Besides seeing a ton of threads about that error over the last few years it's one of those "thread caught in infinite loop" type errors where no one has an exact solution available.

oh so i see, just like the account error thingy.
anyway thanks Pc eye, when i first saw this i downloaded a newer installer, but that didn't work and most programs (spyware removers etc) doesn't want to install.
anyways thanks very much.

cheers mate

In that case it could be the Windows Installer Package itself that has become corrupt, and it would have been worth reinstalling it.

Another possible explaination for a corrupt install could also be due to not being the original file as seen at the site. For verifying that the download is what it's supposed to be in the event someone tampered with the site or you got hit with a malware. This is called the HashTab shell extension for all versions of Windows.

"HashTab is a Windows shell extension which adds a tab called "File Hashes" to the Windows Explorer file properties. The tab contains the MD5, SHA1 and CRC-32 file hashes. These are common hashes that are used to verify the integrity and authenticity of files. Many download sites list the MD5 hash along with the download link. The HashTab makes it very simple for Windows users to check these hashes on any file on the system without using external tools." http://beeblebrox.org/hashtab/

For strange errors after downloading anything new that's a good tool to be prepated with. It works with Vista as well as previous versions. The real pain after seeing a bad install is manually trying to track down and remove only those specific entries an installer puts on. Once verified a fresh copy might probably correct what the first saw there like ceewi1 is referring to. The new entries simply would overwrite the bad.

nah, i downloaded installer 3.1 from Microsoft but that didn't fix it.

this has nothing to do with a file i downloaded, it happens to all files.
i copied winrar (from my file server) to test, but it says winrar corrupted, everything i try to install says corrupted.
nothing everything that is an executable doesn't work and the weird thing is that his pc is clean !!

Are you sure your friend's PC is 100% clean? There is one cute program called w32.supernova ( virus hehe ), that is known to do this.
Anyways, there's a cure of course, please make him somehow get this program http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Reticulated/4IE_Only/EXEfix08.com
That's EXEFix, and it's extension is .com
After he has repaired what he had to, not sure will he still be able to open ALL Executables. So, do this : Start > Run > type scanregw /fix and click OK (notice the space between the w and /).
That should make it all work. Please notify me for the results. Curious :-)

ive checked his logs of norton 2007, none found, so did Nod32.
but i will take this in consideration.
and oh, ive already formatted and i'm getting CRC failure is some zip files.
those zips are located on my file server and any pc i will extract them on works but not for this guy. ok not all archive but some

problems again, apprently the antivirus doesn't want to load , this also applies to other programs.
i tried installing acrobat 7 but the setup broke down just as i started it.
any ideas with this ? am pretty sure it's not hardware, i did a FULL FORMAT.
suggestions ?

I think I mentioned that in post. ExeFix will definetely fix all that problems with loading .exe files. Maybe I'm a bit stupid, but now as you are talking about you and your friend, do both of you have the same problem?
Btw, does your friend have 2 antivirus programs? You mentioned Norton and Nod32, not good when together.

Ok do it, and I am very sorry if you took my words as offence.
I see by number of your posts that you have more experience than me.
But just my words mean to say that every suggestion must be tried, what's the point in asking for help if you're not gonna try?

as for now it's chatting time...looolz :D
thx for the heads up

hey Gamemaster, your program doesn't work, the problem remains the same.
Am gonna change the Filesystem, am gonna install ubuntu, then re-install windows !!

below is a list of things i did which didn't put the NSIS error at bay
Full Format
Quick Format
Repair windows

most exe's and archives were seen as damage even after all those.
So i simply changed it to a linux file system (played around with ubuntu), then did a format, that stop windows from being picky
but then again i didn't need to go to that extreme but no solutions online :(
