NSIS Media Extention keeps coming back though! I havent a clue how to get rid of it (Neither do my antivirus programs). I read online that it may have came from something i downlaoded for download.com, but i dont know... could someone help me?

Download HJTsetup.exe from this link http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This. Please install it there.
Continue to click "next" in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the "Select Addition Tasks" dialogue.
Put a check by "Create a desktop icon" then click "Next" again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click "Finish" and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the "Do a system scan and save a logfile" button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log and post it in this thread.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip to your Desktop.
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Post a copy of this log also.

Here is the hijackthis log:

This entry here - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto indicates you've been adjusting your startup programs. Please reset this back to normal startup.

Also, go to ADD/REMOVE Programs and get rid of 'Logitech Desktop Messenger' and reboot your computer. Post a new 'HJT' log and we'll go from there.

The problem with the infection you have is that it is very difficult to locate and remove. While waiting for your response, i found an interesting thread on your infection which requires alot of searching and trial and error. Because of this, i feel it would be better for you to follow all the steps/ help in this thread. On the last page, an expert recently wrote a script to try and deal with this infection. I will give you the link and let me know how things procede. When finished with it, post back with a new log and give me an update.

OK, i'm finally back... Well I read that thread you posted and it gave a lot of usefull info. Like it said, I downloaded "X-Blocker". Xblocker found NSIS media extension, and deleted it. It told me to rebot, so i did, but when i got windows started up again, it look like windows 95 style startmenu and everything, and instead of windows themed sounds, it just had beeps. Well I figured that it must accidently be in safemode. Nope, it wasnt. Turns out that NSIS somehow connected to all windows XP goodies that give the themes and sounds. And to make matters worse, NSIS was still there!! I couldnt dp a system restore because xblocker decided to remove my previous restore points. I had to reinstall windows with the disc that came with my laptop, deleting my harddrive. I backed up my needed files. Today i finally got everything installed and up and running again. I really appriciate all of your help. I still cant believe that NSIS caused all these problems.

I'm sorry i couldn't of been more help to you but as you saw in that thread, it's very difficult to not only remove but find.
