NTLDR - Missing?

Hi all, been having a strange problem with my new build. dont know if its a motherboard, drive or os issue so i just put it in where i thought the problem was.

Anyway ive upgraded from my old system, new cpu, motherboard and RAM. Basically before updating the bios it gave me a message NTLDR is missing ctrl, alt del to restart. if i restarted the message would still appear and for some reason removing my hdd would stop it. On some inspection i found that my kingston drive was completely gone from the bios i could either select asus dvd drive or my seagate 2tb drive to boot. when i removed the seagate drive and restarted it re-appeared again and i could then boot to the SSD and continue as normal.

if for whatever reason i restarted the pc via restart button on the front or switched the pc off at the power once shut down the message would re-appear. if i restarted via windows it would load as normal.

I thought to update the bios to the current 1103 version which all went well and updated with no problems. The message seemed to have dissappeared and i didnt have any problems with it at all yesterday or this morning. Started overnight with no problems. Since the message has come back at which unplugging my hdd did nothing. I had to actually unplug the SSD and put it back in for it to register the SSD in the bios and boot to it.

i shut it down and powered it off and since the message hasnt come back but the problem is still there i guess. I have tried repairing with the installation disk but it fails when it says attempting repairs. The first time i did it, it actually said cannot repair a locked drive.

Im just about to do a health check on the SSD and HDD to see if there are any bad sectors. Im just unsure as to what to do, im thinking about refreshing windows 8 completely but its the last resort as i dont want to have to install everything all over again so i thought id ask here first.

Thanks for your help :) :good:

no, i just left everything OS wise as it was. I didnt really want to do a fresh install. It seems to be ok now but, I havent had any problems since but im guessing not re-installing is whats giving me the problem then :(.

If so would i need to do a full install or could i just refresh?

The problem is you have totally new hardware on the motherboard and you would really need to install a fresh copy of windows.

just installed a full fresh copy of windows 8 with all old software removed. Currently updating but after a restart the message "NTLDR is missing CTR, ALT and DEL to restart" re-appeared again.

Going to see what happens when it is all updated and updated back to 8.1.

I simply restarted the system and only my seagate 2TB and asus disk drive showed in the bios, however i could force boot to the Kingston drive but it wasnt under the boot options menu.

decided to to re-install as when i started the pc this morning the message came up once again.

If it comes up again when i get home from work ill try moving all the ports to the normal 6g, they are in SATA express 6g at the moment because one of my gpu's makes them hard to get too, but i guess it shouldn't really matter.

Yeah, sounds like you are having issues with drives being recognized. Also when reinstalling make sure you only have the drive that you are installing windows to plugged in. If you have another drive attached the boot files may go on the other drive.

Have correctly installed to 8.1 and the problem seems to have gone :). powered up this morning with no problems.

will let you know if anything else changes, Thanks for your help :D :good:.
