NVidia 6800 cards..

Looking for a new Nvidia card.

Can someone explain what the difference is between the:

6800GS
6800GT
6800
6800XT etc etc

Not even the NVidia website can tell me this. So bl**dy confusing.

GS has 12 pipelines and higher clock than GT
GT has 16 pipelines but lower clock than Ultra
vanilla has 12 pipelines
XT has 8 pipelines
Ultra has 16 pipelines and the highest clockspeed

edit: newegg says the XT has 12 pipelines but that's a typo.
 
What is best out of the 6800GS and 6600GT?
Is it better to have more pipelines or higher clock speed?

I'm looking at 2 XFX cards:

6800s Extreme 256mb (PVT40BUD)
6600GT 256mb (PVT43AUD)

Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated.

Well clock speeds are easy to reach with a bit of overclocking, but unless the card has unlocked pipelines, you cant gain the extra pipelines

The 6800GT is much better than the 6600GT, it has more pipelines, 256-bit bus, as well as a few other things.

Sure is, the 6800GS is almost as powerful as a 6800GT. So ya, the 6800GS is better than the 6600GT.
