nvidia 6800GS says "insuffucient power"

I actually posted a topic about it already before I noticed people posting their problems here. I have a more in depth description here http://www.computerforum.com/showthread.php?p=188917#post188917 if you would like to follow the link. Basically I am stumped and being owned by my PC building newbness.. I also have a problem about how to set up my ram timing there since I'm not sure what means what :o

Is this a common problem with the X-Connects?? I should have known.. I did buy a $40 chieftec dragon/PS combo.. getting a Dragon for $40 alone is a kick ass deal, I guess I just "assumed" that since it was such a nice case that the PS would be up to the task, I mean it does look good, has some "decent" weight to it.. I guess they really did cheap out on the power supply though.. I was thinking about replacing it with an XClio power supply, those good?? I can get a 500W one for $60, I dont want to though.. If you have a solution, like maybe I just have to manually adjust my voltage on the video card or something.. that is definately what I prefer :D
 
means your PSU doesnt have enough power/amps to power it, and if your looking for a new PSU we have some at my work, i can see what we have, maybe you can save a little money

I'm all for savin $ ;) lemme know what ya got so I can see the difference in price to other online retailers.. are these new in box?? they good enough to run a video card as long as the damn MB, 2 gigs of ram, 4 sata drives and all the other goodies?? Also I do know that it says it doesnt have enough power.. just wondering if maybe I should try to turn up the voltage manually to see if it fixes it, and if I should attempt it.. wondering what I should bump it to ;) I just have it set on auto right now

6 pin? umm, maybe not.. I thought the 4 pin one next to the video card was the one I was suppose to plug in... guess I'll shut down now and see if I see a 6 pin one somewhere lol :D be back shortly
 
I just looked and didn't see a 6 pin one?? I have a 4 pin right next to the video card, and it is plugged in... although the manual says that 4 pin plug is in case I run an SLI setup?? does that mean there is a 6 pin one hiding somewhere??

the 4 pin connector by the top PCI-E slot is plugged in

also, the connector there is a 24 pin, but I used a 20 pin, and the 4 pin connector over by the onboard stuff at the back of the case.. Did I do that right?? or am I suppose to do something else?? Why would it have a 24 pin connector AND that square 4 pin connector??

I'm not sure exactly, but you just do :P. Did you're PSU come with a 24 pin ATX power conector? If so plug this AND the 4 pin in. And I was refering to the 6 pin power conector that should fit into the card itself. If your PSU doesnt have one then check the graphic card package it should come with a molex to PCI-e power convertor.

EDIT: I hate it when people post once I'm typing... Once again, my glorious moment when I tell someone what the problem is was taken away because I'm a slow typer.

at the back of your graphics card not the end where the computer screen hooks up to the other end there should be a black box where you put a 6 pin power cable in
 
ok guys, I really really appreciate it, and it IS FIXED!!! HOO-YA! I can't explain in words how much of a newbtard I feel like though, I just hope other people run across this thread and my embarassment helps them :( I feel like I'm... oh man, im such a moron :( Thank you much... you guys know much about ram timings?? I have a problem with that too lol

here is a copy/paste from another thread:

the ram I purchased had good reviews online so I decided to get it since it is cheap ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820141236 ) and the stock timings are suppose to be 2-3-2-5 according to Newegg and I don't know what number means what.. I tried changing a few and my computer wouldnt boot so I had to just reset cmos. I guess I don't really understand ram to know how to do this.. I've always left it on auto and it had the correct timings. My options Biostar's bios gives the options for:

cas# Latency 2, 2.5, 3
Min RAS# Active time 2T-7T
Ras# to Cas# delay 2T-7T
Row Precharge Time 2T-7T
Row to Row delay 2T-4T

before I upgraded my bios I only saw 4 options to change but now there is 5... What numbers go where??

Another thing is my ram is specified at 2.6V and my motherboard only gives the options of 2.7V-2.9V, so what do I do??

lol, well crappy the way I had it setup.. tell ya what.. I'll play a round of BF2 on full quality and AA on and let ya know in an hour ;) hopefully I have a fix for my ram by then too lol... be back in like an hour.. I need to test my new revived system.. ty sooo much guys
 
i love my card, dont need to overclock it, and i might try flashing the BIOS to a 6800GT so i can have all of the pipelines

WOW! lol, I am playing at full quality, full everything, AA is on 4x in the game with it application controlled and it doesnt have even the slightest lag at ALL.. my 6600GT could run full settings on most maps but the minute I put AA on it was flippin me off, not anymore :) the 6800GS is basically a 6800GT from what Ive read, it definately shows ;) far superior to my old XFX 6600GT :eek: Especially at $199 shipped, cant beat it. My roomates x800XT aint got nothin on me now. My video card runs it just as well.. Can't complain for $199 shipped from clubit.com :D I'll never use the SLI feature though, I only got the Biostar SLI cause it has 4 SATAII ports, at $80 the SLI was just a bonus that I'll never use.. It's cheaper to just get a single "GOOD" video card than 2 "alright" ones in SLI, plus it's usually cheaper getting just 1 good one. I am definately impressed with the GS though, costing less than the reguar 6800 256MB cards, but getting the performance of a GT, how can you complain??

btw, this is all runnin on DVI with 1280x1024@75hz on my 19" LCD with a 12ms response time.. it is candy to my eyes. I am so happy :( lol you guys have made my day by correcting my newbness... seriously. I wasn't too happy with my upgrades until now. now if only I could find out what to set those bios settings to for my ram, might make it even better?? who knows

you can get a 7800GT for around $300 sometimes after rebate too.. so you can always go that route. For me.. I dont need to spend the extra $100, all I do is play BF2 and this 6800GS runs it just fine on full settings so there wont be any benefit to a 7800GT. Guess it all depends on if you want to fork out the extra 50% of the GS's cost to make your PC more future proof. I bet by the time I need to upgrade to run on full quality on the newer games.. There might be something even better and better value when that day comes compared to the 7800GT

ok, I downloaded cpu-Z and it gave me all the info I needed to get the ram working correctly. My problems are solved! I had to actually enter my timings of 2-3-2-5 in the order of 2-5-3-2, that's where I made the mistake... I figured they woulda been in the right order. I left my ram voltage to auto.. hopefully it's doin ok ;)
