Hello all, i recently purchased a 27 inch insignia LCD tv for my computer. I have had it for about a month now and it has been great. Recently tho my computer obtained a virus and had to reformat the computer. after reformating, windows will not come up. When started up it goes through the usual loading but gets to the point where its just about to get to the desktop and goes into a unsupported mode. Any suggestions?

You added the tv after already having Windows installed and running with what monitor then? You will need or another lcd to see Windows running normally in order to later see the tv used as the substitute. The fresh copy of Windows runs on the default vga drivers until the video card and other drivers for the tv if required are installed.

you do see the post screen etc (so all the stuff before windows boots up) on the tv?
then try booting windows up in safe mode, (hit F8 before you see the windows loading bar, then you can choose it, if its booting windos already, just hit reset and it should ask you anyway ^^ )
in safe mode, you can set the resolution to the res you need for the monitor, and you can instal the drivers for the grafic's card if needed :)

You wouldn't be able to install drivers while in safe mode. Plus you are limited to as far as resolution there as well since only the bare essentials are loaded.

"Because Safe Mode takes the system to the lowest common denominator of performance, the screen's resolution is often taken a few levels back. As a result, the screen appears to be highly grainy with larger icons." http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=26481&seqNum=1

If you are running XP,

"Reboot the computer, pressing F8 to access the windows advanced options menu. Choose 'enable VGA mode' from the menu.
VGA mode starts Windows normally with a single exception. Your video refresh rate and resolution are both reset to 640x480 and 60Hz respectively. This should display correctly on any VGA monitor, allowing you to change the display settings to something more compatible with your hardware."

To do this, go to 'start\control panel\display' and choose the 'settings' tab, then 'advanced.' Select the 'adaptor' tab and choose 'list all modes.' Select a resolution that works with your current monitor setup, then click 'ok' to test. If everything looks fine, reboot the computer into normal mode.
