on my old power supply, if i didn't plug 2 of the cords in the adapter which then plugged into my 7900gt then i would get a message saying that the cards not working at its full capacity because of lack of power

now i got a new 400 watt ps, and i had to unplug the adapter from the card because i need those 2 plugs for something else, but i no longer get that message! and my games all seem to be running fine without it

so is like the pci-e port giving it enough power on its own? or is it some driver update the made power use efficient enough to not need it or something?!

I am not sure but read the box it came with. On my 6600GT/X800XL the box claimed "No supplemental power needed"
I didn't add extra power.

It's best if you plug in the power cord. Check your core/mem frequency of the card, it might be lowered due to insufficient power.

it probably lowerd because bfg's are oced cards. i remember their 6600gt constantly lowered the power because i was using a crappy psu at the time.
