NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS vs. NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M

HP offers the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS on their laptops.
Lenovo has the NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M on theirs, in the same price range (~$1400)

Which is better?

The quadro is a cad card

The 8600m is a gaming card.

So get the quadro if you are doing cad or the 8600m if you are gaming.

Hmm . . . I do a lot of 3D modeling and animation for computer games, which I need to test out. Therefore, it would appear I need a card that supports CAD and gaming. I don't really understand the difference. Could you explain?

Sorry but I really don't know the difference myself.

My dad and I think that the quadro is given the set of points and will let you modify (move around, change shape, etc) them without ever leaving the graphics card, therefore giving you better performance.

Remember this is what I think, I really have no idea.

No problem - thanks for the reply anyway. I thought video cards all dealt with the same transformations, and it was just a matter of speed.

Anybody know?

For anyone who cares, Wikipedia says:

The difference comes in the firmware controlling the card. In a game, speed is extremely important and textures, shading, or rendering can be shut down after only approximating a final output in order to keep the overall frame rate high. The algorithms on a CAD oriented card are more likely to complete all rendering operations even if that introduces delays or variations in the timing.
