Except that 9800GX2 combines two G92 8800GTS into one,all the other 9800 series cards including 9800GTX and 9800GT remain G92 core.
9800GTX will replace existing G92 8800GTS.the problem is,9800GTX which remains G92 and the same stream processors, only increase the core frequency to 750+mhz,and what can we expect it more comparing with 8800GTS?
and yep,9800GT remains G92 too, which is gonna reduce to 112 stream processors.the price would be $299 and this card is supposed to replace 8800GT.ok,who can tell me,WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 9800GT&8800GT???
I still wanna say "no competition,no advancement".even though AMD released 3870*2 early, they still got no various cards to go against the whole 9800series battleline.
to see 100% performance increase from geforce6 series to geforce7 series maybe we gotta wait until geforce 10000series or something.

I wouldn't be too sure. Yes the cores are both G92, however the 8800GT I believe is G92-400, whereas the 9600GT is G92-450.

Also, the 9600GT performs very closely to the 8800GT, I highly doubt you would see the 9800GT/S/X perform the same as the 8800GTS.

well, To be honest I'm not too fuzzed about what core they have or so, all that matters to me (or should to anyone to be honest :P ) would be how they perform and what the power consumption will be. :)

The point he was trying to make was that the newer 8800 series uses the G92 core, which is what the 9 series is using, so he believes that you won't see [much] of a performance difference between the 8800 and 9800.

exactly.all I wanna see is a jump,a revolution, like geforce 7 series.

Well the video card industry has slowed down recently, as we all have noticed. I sorta find it better for me because my system will remain high-end longer.

I was thinking about this the other day and here's what I concluded. The 9-series is being released to better cover their bases against ATI while having a new name for more sales.

The 9800GX2 is being released to stomp out the HD3870X2 and put nVidia at the top again, the 9800GTX/GTS/GT are being released with slightly higher performance than it's predecessors to make their advantage over ATI single-gpu cards concrete, the mid-end 9-series such as the 9600GT are being released to defeat ATI's previously superior high-end lineup at the same pricepoint, and the low-end 9500's are going to be at about where the 8600GT is performance wise to compete with the low price point of the HD3650/possible HD3670. So nVidia is targeting the few areas ATI has had dominance mainly the mid to low end to reclaim market share.

thx much.wise analyse.:) however it is good to consumer, isnt it?

It will be good as long as ATI keeps up and challenges the price/performance ratio of nVidia's cards by releasing cheaper and more powerful ones forcing nVidia to do the same.
