nVidia or Radeon?

NVidia has always held the lead for gaming on more models while cards with ATI chips can easily work for the average gaming. Despite brand name those are the two leading manufactures for video cards. Even off name brands of video cards are generally found with one or the other. People rave about frame rates with NVidia models while ATI has held it's end here on more then one build. The newer line of ATI R600 models promises to leave the newest 8600 and 8800 models as well as 7950s and Radeon X1950s lagging behind. But you are looking at the newer card supporting DX10 as well.

there are others but nvidia and ati(thats what there called, not radeon) are the biggest. And choosing between the two is mostly just a matter of opinion.. there are some differences, nvidia cards are better at playing id games like doom while ati cards are better at playing oblivion.. but other than that theres not much difference. :)

They are both great, and they both have the best cards at some time or another.

Right now nVidia's 8800GTX is on top, but very soon ATI's x2900 will be on the top.

Which car is better, Ford or Chevrolet?
Which drink is better, Coke or Pepsi?
Which processor is better, AMD or Intel?

Same thing with graphics cards. Both nVidia and ATI are fine.

I agree, it is a matter of preference, what is going to really determine performance is what model and how much you spend.

the only reason to get a high end grafic's card would be gaming (except the quadro and fireGL ones)
besides that, here is already a thread like that ;)

i like nvidia, but i cant afford the model i want so im going with the ATI equivalent, which is cheaper. i just wish EVGA would make ATI cards....

Thats the furtherest thing from the truth, Nvidia has not always held the lead for gaming, its always been a back and forth over the years! And as fas as the average gamer one is just as good as the other!!

I agree, completely untrue! In late 2002, ATI with the 9700PRO held the crown for gaming king for a while.

I've had better luck with Nvidia, all of the ati cards I got in the past all had issues. So I guess now, I'm an Nvidia guy now. :D

seems like the majority of prebuilt computers come with ati cards

nvidia seems to be the custom-pc builder's choice, tho

pre-fabbed computer builders are probably biased toward ati because nvidia doesn't make any reference cards of their own

anyone know why nvidia doesn't make cards?

Nvidia does make their own cards. I owned a crappy 5200 a while back and it was a nvidia. No Oem's listed on the box. just Nvidia. :)

What about Chrysler? How about Sprite? and the list goes on and on and on... I usually pick out the one that works.

That's not according the latest poll seen! at http://www.computerforum.com/4405-nvidia-ati.html Before the two NVidia driven cards on the last build followed by the eventual ATI Radeon 9550 I never used cards with ATI chips. The 9xxx models saw the move there. But the poll shows NVidia in the lead.
