hey all is it possible to go from an nvidia gpu straight to an ATI gpu

obviosuly you woudl have to download drivers etc, but are there any major problems with doing this

asking as it seems ATI cards are faster and better priced than their similar priced counterparts

Take out nVidia GPU, put in ATI/AMD GPU, uninstall nVidia drivers, install ATI drivers

Also, which price range are you in? both companies have some great cards

erm, im not atm i was curios, i have an 8800gts atm, was just looking for an overall upgrade, nothing to drastic.

say when i do eventually upgrade i would have budget of £50-£100

it will be used for gaming, and i dont mind going used.

Wrong way round, uninstall nVidia drivers completely, take out the old card, put the new card in, install the new drivers.

So far as the price/performance goes, it depends on the price range. For instance, midrange, a GTX460 would potentially be the best option, but similarly priced is a 6850/6870, which are still excellent cards.

High end, a 6950 is the best option price wise.

For lower end, it really doesn't matter, both have good offerings, again, it just depends on your budget

Whoops. Yeah course.

For £50, you won't get anything much faster than your 8800, but for just over £100 you have a GTX460 768MB

is the gtx 460 good? i am rubbish with parts lol

could you tell me what makes it good, and how much are they now, how much do you think (if at all) will they drop by in the next few months?

I would sell your 8800GTS. you will be getting at least £30-40 or so for it, bringing your budget up to around £130 at least.

For that sort of price, you can go for a GTX460 as was mentioned, or as you said you will take used, you can get a 9800gx2 for around £90, which will outperform your GTX460, but, it will be drawing a lot more power and is much longer, so make sure that your case has the room and that your PSU is good enough

case is an antec 912 i think, and psu is a corsair modular 650 watt not sure of any more details about the two

You may have to remove your top hard drive bay, but it will fit. As for your graphics card, it is more than enough, so in both cases, you are safe with any card at all

eh, graphics card? im safe with any graphics card?? did you mean PSU

also how good bad is the 8800 gts by the way it is the 320mb one not the 640 or the 512mb sli one

Yes I did, sorry.

Your 8800GTS is still enough to play any game out, maybe not on highest settings, but medium-low, it will be fine

nice aasti, think i shall save up and have a gander at the 9800gx2

one on ebay now for £65 used, working...but i dont have money :/
