nVidia will make their own cpu

honestly I do not know why anyone reads the Inquirer. They are not exactly a trusted source.

Well, Googles CPU would have to be in beta for 30 years at which point it would be gaining cache per second :P

I wonder how much validity there is in this? Or perhaps aquisition of that x86 company was for insight into bringing down their bloody power consumption!

This may go to squash all the Intel-buying-nVidia murmers going around.

It will probably never happen.

Probably just an idea they have and like Blue said the Inquirer probably are not exactly a trusted source.

Probably hear something about Ati doing a Cpu or something next:D

I second that, they have published several bunk hack and exploit stories in the past with out any kind of hard evidence.

Exactly. A perfect example is when they said that DX9.0L will be the DX10 for XP, then the next day they say 9.0L is only for Vista.

Don't trust that site.

I think they might try the market, but not without help from another factor like amd or intel, maybe a joint made cpu...nvidia is still a vastly growing company and wants to expand beyond what they make now....

i think its a feasible idea, but whether they do it is the question.

Slashdot cites the inquirer so although I'd be more inclined to believe something on slashdot I think if nvidia does make a CPU it would be like VIAs x86s.

ya so does fark.com and digg.com both cite the inquirer

They publish a lot of rubbish, not sure if any of you followed that wifi driver security exploit that was huge and then no one could confirm its existance...

I would rather not see a unification of the graphics subsystem into the CPU. As I mentioned before, it would be great to see instead nVidia be the first to take up the lower energy usage grail. Going from the G80 being like a netburst Pentium to the Core 2 Duo of graphics - cool, more efficient, and taking names in the processor industry and blowing them out of the water. :)

They've got their hands full with ATI, they don't need to be branching off *just* yet. Though, a computer featuring nVidia processor, nVidia chipset, nVidia graphics card, and nVidia sound (built into chipset) *would* be freakin awesome.

yea, ATI uses avivo video converter drivers so you can use their gpu as a "cpu" for converting videos. quite the efficient processor for such a process.

I don't think that Nvidia would be making a CPU by themselves, but they wouldn't get help from Intel or AMD...so maybe they should team up with PowerPC. :)

power pc is a platform not a company. IBM makes the PPC platform pretty much and they are in bed with sony and toshiba right now making their Cell Processors.

PPC is on the verge of dying IMHO, really only sun spark systems use them now after Apple made the switch over to x86
