Nvram

Hi,when i go to restart seting on my pc it shuts down then starts up automatically but a black screen comes up with the wording checking NVRAM and this went on for about 30min i got fed up of waiting so i switched off manually and then resart,im running windows xp pro with 1gb ram can anyone tell what checking NVRAM is and why dont it carry on to open up to the welcome screen.Thankyou daitan.

Check the CMOS battery. Chances are good that the battery is dead and not allowing the system to precess CMOS (Bios) data.

If you have any extra USB on your Motherboard, unplug them from the motherboard

Another thing to try is to reseat any RAM modules in order to ensure good contact

switching jumpers
rubbing off sticks
blowing off ports
resecuring cables
