nx processor

Does anyone know of any socket 478 processor that supports NX? I don't care whether its pentium 4 or celeron or whatever, I just want to upgrade to windows 8. I found a few things that said they did make some, but nothing would be specific.

I think you are out of luck. Just get an updated machine. I wouldn't want to run Vista, 7 or 8 on a 478 processor. Your max ram is probably only 2gb on that 478 board. Not enough to run new OS efficiently, stick with XP.

There are some pc's out there for 400$ including newest windows, you should be better off with that.

The max ram is 4gb and I still might upgrade to win 7 if I can get a good deal. I upgraded my hp pavilion dv6000 laptop to windows 8 with 3gb ram (originally xp) and it runs 8 better than it did xp. The desktop is kind of old, but it works great so there's no sense in wasting money. I'm in no hurry, so I'll just keep an eye out for win 7. It has a hyper threaded 3ghz pentium 4 in it, so its got enough power for me.

Seems to me like most Socket 478 chips won't work/don't have NX bit I'm afraid.

Windows 7 doesn't require nx, only windows 8 requires it, and I wanted windows 8 because it was only 40$ rather than the $130 for win 7.
