OC AsusK8S-MX

I have an OEM spinoff of the Asus K8S-MX with Athlon 64 3400 and 512MB PC2300 running at PC2700, and I was wondering if I could overclock. I cant do it through the bios, bc it is compaq, and they dont let you do that stuff. So if anyone knows of any other way to OC, that would be great.
 
How am I supposed to know if it works? I downloaded the one for Asus, and it came up, but I dont know if it will work.

btw, I sent a nasty email to HP, asking about the OEM mobo, and they said in their "goddamn fcukt up" way, that it meets all the specs that they needed it to, so it is fine. I responded back asking how I could OC, and that person went into a whole schpeal about how dangerous it is, and how it voids the warranty, etc etc blah blah blah. So I responded back saying that what if I wanted to OC in a year, when the warranty id void anyway, and she hasnt replied back yet.

My chipset is Sis 760, AMD Hammer, or whatever.

Could I try underclocking, to see if it works?

If it will work, could you please explain to me in simple terms how to do it? This is my first time OCing

Read before you download. Having a quick lookover myself I dont know [a] if you read before you clicked or what you downloaded because your chipset and board arent there (unless im blind)

Well what did you expect from an OEM??

Sure.... but how would you go about doing that? :)

Lower the multiplier and voltage

Sigh. ASUS makes a crapload of motherboards. Even within the list of supported Clockgen versions, theres a whole bunch so "I dnld the ASUS one" doesnt mean much

Yeah yeah yeah ... and how would you go about lowering the multiplier and voltage?
 
Are you sure that the board is an ASUS? Every Compaq I've seen uses propriety boards and bios. The warranty is overrated anyway, everything is designed to fail 2 days or less after it expires

I'm not very familiar with AMD multipliers but I think they are locked, so to OC or underclock you'd have to raise/lower bus speed or voltages.

Often Compaqs and HPs and such use ASUS or MSI boards however they are heavily modified (read: crippled) from the original design and the BIOS is rewritten to tailor to that board ... it seems Compaq/HP use MSI boards and Dells often use ASUS ones.

With the exception of the overpriced FX line, AMD chips are indeed half-locked.

One of the systems I have at home is a Compaq and it uses a 'designed by compaq engineers in texas' stamp on it right beside the north bridge, I was sure most oems needed to design their own boards because of the screwy cases they are so fond of using

I was sure most oems needed to design their own boards because of the screwy cases they are so fond of using
I was under the impression it was more of a power supply issue rather than a case thing ;)

What the heck are you guys arguing about? I was able to change the multiplier and voltage, but cpuz didnt notice the difference

All I want to know is what exactly my mobo is, and if I can OC it. Other than that, I can figure out most of the stuff on my own. (I think :rolleyes: )

increasing the bus speed makes more difference than the multiplier, so if you can increase that instead.
If the multiplier was changed then you should have had a clear increase in clock speed so either 1. the increase you set didn't save or 2. you can't OC.
 
There was only ONE ASUS download.
Assuming you downloaded the Athlon64 one ... you'd realize before you downloaded that it doesnt support your chipset :)

Ooooh touche partner :P

increasing the bus speed makes more difference than the multiplier, so if you can increase that instead.
Assuming the memory can scale
