oc'ing.... again....

i wasn't happy enough with my cpu performance (do alot of unpacking and packing of files using winrar). So i started with oc'ing a little again. When i got to 3.4 ghz i noticed my temps go a little high (52c under prime95) And then i wasn't even stressing the gpu which will add alot of heat in my case.

So i opened up my case to see if anything could be done. I removed an obsolete dvd drive. changed the direction of 2 fans and had to reseat the cpu in the process to. Now it get about the same temps under load.

I always thought the thermal paste would have to settle in for a while (say a week or 2). It had to harden out to really conduit the heat (am i saying that right?). Now i'm totally talking crap here or am i correct?

Btw i think i've got him stable at 3.5 now with a vcore of 1.5.

I'd say the vCore is a bit too high but anyways. That is a very nice OC for the E6420, just watch out for the temps and you should be fine.

i had it 3.0 before wasn't happy about that :P
anyways, what do you use the monitor temps/voltages?
i usually use everest but it's telling my vcore is between 1.5 and 1.6
and i've set it to 1.475 and i'm stress testing.

i've got it at 3.4 ghz with 1.45vcore. I think i'm gonna stop here. i can't get it stable at 3.5 and i can't even get it to boot properly at higher speeds.

Nah for 3.4GHz I think it's fine ;)

I have mine at 1.325 @ 2.7GHz

But if I want to do 3.0GHz I have to raise it to like 1.45 and it won't even be stable.

yea but you probably got better cooling (my case is in the worst place ever)
and your cpu is alot slower on stock than mine.
