OCing my XP 2800+

i installed Need for Speed Most Wanted, and at the graphics settings i wanted- it was too choppy. time for more power.

first off, my computer
Athlon XP 2800+
ASUS A7V600X
2gb Geil 3200
256mb 5700LE

my processor is still locked (im going to look for how to unlock it) i started upping the FSB. i got it all the way to 194, 2425mhz, using the stock voltage. 195 or higher and it wouldnt post. it worked in windows fine, but when i went back into my games the graphics were all screwy. i backed it down to 2.2ghz and its all good. i want to get it higher though. id like to get it to 2.5ghz.

in my BIOS, i cant increase the voltage in .25 increments. it goes straight from 1.6 to 1.7. when i put it on 1.7 it would hang. i didnt mess with it at 1.7 that much though.

what are some common OCs for the 2800+?
id like to unlock the CPS so that i dont have to change the core clock, any suggestions about that?

I'd suggest oc'in your video card. You'll probably see a bigger difference when you do that vs ocing your cpu.

Yeap. I doubt overclocking your CPU will have much of an affect at all. You vid card I would think would be having a pretty big bottleneck on your CPU.

i was thinking about putting my CPU/MB/VC on ebay and upgrading it to a 64 3500+ or 3700+. ill probably do that eventually, but it is too much money for right now.

how would i go about OCing my VC?

Lower the multiplier to 11.0x, raise the FSB to 200MHz. Instant Athlon XP 3200+

And yes, you can lower the multi, even if It's locked. You just can't raise it past 12.5x.

I didn't even have to raise the VCore when I did it.

i didnt know that i could lower it. im going to try it tonight.

i was messing around trying to OC the 5800LE. it was originally 225mhz, i took it to 250mhz. the memory is still at 400. i would OC it more but i have no clue how far to take it. any suggestions?

i need to download 3DMark.

this is strange but when i had my Athlon XP 2200+ thorton core (-256KB barton) when the FSB was on 133MHz my 3DMark05 score was around 1600 but when i increased the FSB to 145Mhz my score was around 1900, didnt touch the vid card clock though, with my duron OC'ed to 2.2GHz i get around 2100 3DMarks 2005
