I have a question about the OCZ DDR2 PC2-7200 SLI-Ready Edition memory.

Now I always thought SLI only worked in pairs. Now would I be able to buy 4 lots of OCZ DDR2 PC2-7200 SLI-Ready Edition (4gig overall). Would it work? Or can you only have 2?

SLI Memory isn't like SLI video cards. It doesn't need pairs, the SLI Memory term is just nvidia's name for enhanced performance profile (EPP) RAM. All this means is there are specific non-JEDEC parameters programmed into the SPD chip that automatically run the RAM at higher voltage/faster speed/faster timings.

That memory will be sold as 2x1GB sticks of RAM for dual channel though.

Yes but with 32bit OS, like windows XP, not all of the 4GB will be usable. It will be something around 3GB of RAM that will be available.

Will this memory that is equipped with NVIDIA Enhanced Performance Profiles (EPP) to optimize the modules’ performance on nForce® SLI-based motherboards. OCZ exclusively engineered select high-performance modules with advanced SPD (Serial Presence Detect) settings to allow compatible motherboards to recognize and utilize the added information, ultimately increasing the performance potential of the entire platform.

OCZ SLI-Ready memory modules are programmed to boot at 900MHz DDR2 with supremely fast timings of 4-4-3. Only motherboards equipped with the custom-designed BIOS, such as those designed for NVIDIA nForce SLI MCPs, can detect the optimized SPD profiles and ensure the memory functions under the best possible conditions. The exclusive OCZ SPD specifications take out the guesswork and provide enthusiasts and gamers with significant overclocked performance with no manual adjustment or compatibility issues.

Each OCZ SLI-Ready module comes equipped with an exclusive NVIDIA XTC heatspreaders for the most efficient heat dissipation and a look that stands out like its performance. Additionally, all SLI-Ready memory is backed with toll-free technical support, the exclusive EVP (Extended Voltage Protection) coverage, and an industry leading Lifetime Warranty.

Work on this PCI-Express Mainboard - SLI nForce 680i SLI(C55XE) - Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad-Core - ATX motherboard???

Thank you

No problem :)

If for whatever reason you end up with another motherboard that doesn't support SLI memory (say you buy a new one) it will still work, just not automatically at the EPP programmed stuff.

For a motherboard (PCI-Express Mainboard - SLI nForce 680i SLI(C55XE) - Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad-Core - ATX motherboard) that does support SLI memory and the EPP stuff, willl it automatically set the voltage to 2.2 which is required?

I believe so, you might have to go into the BIOS and activate an EPP but that should be all you have to do (if you have to do anything). I haven't used any board that supports that stuff so I don't know the specifics on how to make it use one and not the regular SPD settings. Your motherboard's manual should tell you exactly how it's done.

I seem to remember you were buying a prebuild from somewhere, if they don't send a the motherboard manual it should be fairly straight forward to find in the BIOS but if you can't take pictures of the various menus and someone will know which one it is.
