Hi all,

Can anyone tell me which is the best out of those 2 i mentioned? The OCZ costs more but is it really that better than the HEC?

My rig is:

AMD X3 720
Gigavyte MA 770-UD3
AC ALPINE 64
4GB RAM OCZ
WD500GB
Antec 300
HD4850 ZALMAN

Yes it's a whole lot better OCZ is a name brand power supply and they are reliable. Hec is an off brand and personally I have had 3 or 4 go out on me. I can almost guarantee that everybody is going to recommend a OCZ over a hec.

I know OCZ has a better name but i dont know how good their PSUs are. In the reviews i read, they didnt really say its such an amazing PSU nor a bad one, so i just wanted to know if the price difference between the HEC and the OCZ is justified

I'd go with the OCZ. The thing about the power supply is if it fails, it can fry the rest of your components, putting you out a ton of money. That's why you wanna stick to name brand reputable power supplies.

The OCZ is the better of the two, ocz makes quality power supplies.

If you wanna save some money, the Xclio Stablepower 500W may be had for a bit cheaper than the OCZ and is just as good.

OCZ sleeves their wires, FYI. They look very nice, and would look waaaaay cool inside a black painted case.

If you can afford, you could try and get a ModXStream like I did.

Definitely go with the ocz, I would never trust a HEC as they could fail any time and take other parts with it. Don't skimp on power supplies.

What about a Corsair VX450? would it be enough for my system even if i decided to open the 4th core or upgrade a GPU?

Yea it should be fine look at the rig in my sig it's running on a 400w corsair. Although I would do as bomber said and get a Xclio Stablepower 500w which is an awesome PSU for the price and a little better quality then the OCZ StealthXStream.

I had two OCZ go out on me this year. But the upside is that they have great
customer service, and it only takes a week for them to send me a replacement.
The downside is that I have to pay for shipping to their factory :(

Well i decided to get the corsair 450VX

I have 2 important questions though:

1. Wiil it be enough to hold this system in a good way even under load?

2. If i will decide to upgrade a GPU in the future, is there a chance the corsair wont be enough?

this is the rig:

AMD Phenom 2 X3 720 Black Edition Triple Core AM3 Tray

Arctic Cooling Alpine 64 CPU COOLER

Gigabyte MA-770-UD3 Rev2 AMD770 CHIPSET

OCZ 4GB Kit DDR2 800Mhz Value

WD 500GB 7200RPM 16MB Sata2 AAKS WD5000AAKS

LG GH22NS30 SATA x 22 Black

ANTEC Three Hundred 300

GigaByte ATI Radeon 4850 512mb GDDR3 HDMI Zalman

Might run a 4830 but i wouldnt put much more on it, as 450w is a pretty small psu even if it is a corsair. Id go for at least a 500W Stablepower, or 600W StealthXStream if you plan on uopgrading much more.

That shouldn't have much trouble running a 4850. 33 amps on the 12v rail is quite enough for a 4850, as it doesn't suck much power. Neither does the Phenom II X3 720. He could throw in another hard drive and be okay. But that's about it as far as upgrading the video card.

So basically im limited in a video card upgrade? 4890 or the new 5XXX series wont be able to handle it?

Personally im using a OCZ 700W ModXStream PRO its not failed me so fare the only bad thing is that if you have a big case the CPU Power Cable is very short which its got bad reviews about but im generally using a big case anyway so silly me xD But if your affected by this problem there is an adapter they sell so not to worry :) Im not sure if thats a problem with the 500W version though?

Well, even then you have to think about running the rest of the system, hard drives, fans, etc. 400W Just isnt that much room to play with.

You could get away 350w for a psu. The only thing to worry about is the number of 12v components you'll have which is 2. 450-500 future proofs your setup to an extent for more drives later.
