Office 2007 corrupted my labtop, what now?

Ok I purchased Microsoft Office 2007 about 2 months ago, everything is working perfect, and then today, when I go to start up my computer, it gives me 3 options. 1. access internet and buy a new product key. 2. type in a new product key. or 3. call microsoft office for help. I took it to best buy, I have 2 year warranty. But they said on this problem, they do not cover it. Go figure. But he told me, either buy a new product key. NO I wont, too much money, or to restore my computer, but the problem is the error wont let me get in my computer, only access the internet and thats it! But the guy at best buy told me I could restore my computer without buying a cd, or getting into the main menu, you have to do when start it up somehow, but he wanted to charge me 140.00 bucks to tell me, so does anyoe know how to restore my labtop? I have a HP labtop purchased a year ago. Thanks
 
When your bios page appears on startup, then keep hitting the key that is designated for "restore". It should say on the bottom of the bios page. Restore will then show up and you can select a restore point from a couple days ago and it will restore and should reboot. Note: The reboot may take a while as the restore has to configure and make sure it is working.

thats a full restore, it will delete everything on your computer. the "tech" at best buy probably meant do a system restore, but if you dont know what that is, chances are you dont have any viable restore points anyway. just call microsoft and see what they say.

No it wont!!! It will let you select different points just as if you were doing it inside of windows. You can select a point or you can put the recovery disk in and do a full restore.
 
I don't have Office 2007 but it's hard to believe that the Office activation feature will cause your laptop to go into reduced functionality mode.
Reduced functionality mode should only happen if the Windows key will not activate.
Besides, if you purchased Office, then the key is on the CD case. Type it in if it asks for it.
The same goes for the Windows key. The key is on the sticker affixed to the bottom of the laptop.
If either key will not activate online, then you'll need to use the activate by phone option.

I asked the tech, and he said its most likely the microsoft office, I got a "corrupted" one or something. But I want to restore my labtop, and I do not care if everything gets deleted.

Yes it will! The restore thing you get in while POSTing wipes your HD clean and restores everything to factory defaults. Windows' system restore thingy can be done in windows or in the recovery console (to which, AFAIK, the only way to get is through the boot options screen or by unplugging power while booting...)

No it doesnt!! Even if it does he said he doesnt care if he losses all his stuff. So whats the big deal?
 
Every PC manufacturer has different ways to access their system restore feature.
You will have to read the owners manual that came with the laptop to find out how to restore it to "as purchased" condition.
Some manufacturers use hidden partitions that are accessed through keystrokes or, if you're lucky, the laptop came with restore disks.
 
Oh yeah! If you didnt make restore disks you are most likely screwed. First thing you do when you get your pc running is to make restore disks!
