Official computer worm, virus and spyware awareness thread

OK, we all know that worms, viruses and spyware are our biggest enemy for a PC. This tread is so we can inform others of virus, worm or spyware out breaks. Such as ones that make headlines to be afraid of. doesn't have to be, but if you know know of a new enemy of a PC tell us and if you know how to protect our PC from it, please do tell.

You are going to get chewed out by the mods, lol. You can't say it is official unless you have the mods/admins approval. And btw, use the search button next time? There are plenty of threads about spyware/adware/virus/etc. prevention.
 
To be honest with you, most computer users these days don't really keep up with that sort of information. They just have a good anti-utility and it does all it's updating and virus definitions so we don't have to. Most of those that get on the news are those that are actually new using new methods of exploiting certain features. However, I doubt that you would have the knowledge of it to let the users here know before the press does. I am not saying you don't, but unless this is your job and you check for these kind of things many times a day, I doubt the relevance of this thread wont go very far.
 
For the time being, this has been moved to Computer Security. However I fully expect this thread to get buried in time.
 
Well I'm not saying that we have to know it before the press, just if there is an outbreak and we here about it shouldn't we be curious enough to tell each other about it?
 
hmm...........oh well, it was just a though :D but why do people focus on making viruses for PC and not MAC? and do anti-virus makers like Norton really make viruses so you have to buy some kind of software?
 
But what about the rumors that anti-virus SW makers make the viruses so you will have no other choice to do so and buy one???? Is this true?
