You here it wurring away trying to start, it usually makes three attempts and then gives up. ive got years of stuff on it that i really dont want to loose.
can anybody think how i can get to the data?

nope didnt work :(
unless you ment to do it with the IDE-cable?
there is an 8pin socket wit nothing going into it, next to where the power goes... any ideas what that is?

With out being able to see it, I would guess it's the jumper block. It should be ok if left alone (drive will be in cable select mode)

The hard drive wont start through the usb connection,
would it be worth buying a USB 2.0 To IDE Adapter Connector and trying that way?

Probably not. If the usb exclosure is the problem then changing the interface wont help. Taking the drive out and directly connecting it to power and an IDE cable might though.

To be honest i'm trying to avoid opening my laptop up, that's why i thought maybe the USB 2.0 To IDE Adapter Connector would be a better idea.
I don't think it's the Usb encloser mayb the driver on the HD is the problem?

Oh OK I understand what you are asking. I thought you were going to go from the USB connection to IDE. If you want to try hooking the drive up to a IDE to USB that's almost the same as installing it internally. At least you will be testing the drive directly that way.

Ok not had any luck does anybody know any good relable places i can send it for them to get the info off for me?
Ive googled it and found a few names. but you just can't tell if they are relable.
