ok here goes. my neighbour wants a computer for about 350 dollars. not dual core, but capable of moderate gaming, (he says that but i know he dont game, he just wants a good performer) i went through all my parts and i have some things to take away from the price. i have a psu, i have ram, and i have a hard drive and an operating system.

heres what i want to do: if i can sell my ipod video for about 120-130$, i will find an AMD AM2 4200, buy a new video card, buy a new mobo, and buy new ram, and GIVE him my computer.

what i have IN my comp:

AMD3400 @2.4 GHZ
40GB hd (he wont need 30 of it hahaha) (windows XP already on it)
gigabyte mobo,
X800GTO
1.25 GB ram, (or i might sell 1GB and put another 256 to equal 512, he doesnt need much)

he will get all of that. then i will buy a case to put it all in, and HIS computer will be finished. i will need a new proc, a new mobo, a new video card, new ram, and thats it. i think... anyone have any ideas about how to possibly uncomplicate my mind right now?

i think if i sell the 1GB stick i can make about 50$, to take off his final price. maybe he will be more enticed to buy it

EDIT: this is the stick: OCZ 1GB ram

why dont you just sell him ur comp. sell ur video. come back to us.

you dont need high end ram if ur on a budget like that. ddr-667 is much cheaper and is almost =

hmm the mobo im thinking about is ddr800, it will support 667 right? it doesnt have to be good ram, i dont OC or anything, it just has to be enough for vista

well i want to keep my case, i like it... but other then that and my psu, i am selling him my computer hahaha

here are a general idea on it all:
case

mobo

video card

ram

proc

Just a little thing... doesn't really concern the computer. He says he wants the computer to be able to do moderate gaming, but do you assume that its just because he wants a good performer.

If I were you, I'd have a little talk with him to be sure of what he wants. I'd talk about GPUs and inform him how they can be useful to him for gaming and how pricy they can be, but I'd also tell him that for other purposes such as what you suspect he will really use it for, it is not a GPU that is needed.

I'm just saying that so that you do all that to have him really dissapointed whether it is because he wanted to start gaming or because u misinterpreted how he was.

well, no matter what, he'll be getting my current rig, which has the AMD 3400, the ATI x800GTO, and a gig of ram. moderate games quake under it (most of the time)

Ok, so you are then asking what can you build with the budget you have that you may keep for yourself.

In that case, what budget are you left with ? And how do you intend to use your computer ?

i might overclock, if my mobo allows it, so maybe an abit KN9? i heard those were under 100 and good overclockers. anyways, i plan to game heavily, oblivion, quake four, some internet games, like age of empires III, so a dual core and 2GB of ram is necessary, since i am to be using vista on it (already have that) so what i need is a case, 2 gb ram, a mobo, a processor, and video card for the lowest price possible while still being powerful

the ram can be low quality and once i find the exact parts i am to be using i am going to look for them on ebay, cuz im cheap like that

well, after i get the money for selling him my computer, im going to be selling my ipod video to buy these parts + the 350~ that he gives me. and it is a used system, but i knw that it works, and it works very well

Wow.. lol I wish I could sell my computer for $350.. which is my current sig..
By the way if I was gonna sell my computer for $350, which is close to yours.. I wouldn't sell it to my neighbor for that much...

well lets see. my 3400 beats a p4 a@ 2.4 ghz easy, my x800 would completely blast any card from the 9k series, my ram is ddr400, whereas yours is 133 and 160, and my power supply is an OCZ gamexstream 700W. sorry to be rude, but our systems are not alike

lol.. yeah I should have looked your system up.. all I seen was the infomation given and a quick glance made it seem close  .. But you never mentioned that 700W power supply.. I only have a 250w :P ..
