My apology if this thread has already been covered before.
So anyway basically will there be a loss in cpu performance if I run intel core 2 duo processor on windows xp home 32bit which does not have dual core support as compared to vista and xp pro which supports dual processors?

Home supports Dual core just like Pro, but Pro supports Dual Processors. You wont see any performance difference between Home and Pro with a Dual Core.

So are you trying to say that dual core is not similar to dual processors?
Logically=dual core (win xp home/pro/vista supports)
Physically=dual processors (only win xp pro/vista supports)

Am I right to make the above clarification to myself?

Right, Home supports Dual Core processors just like Pro. But Home does not support Dual Processors as in more than one physical processor.

Yes. Basically Windows XP Home is designed for home use, and not for systems with multiple sockets and multiple processors.
