ok so this is the second time this has happened. out of no where, my cpu fan speeds up and gets me very worried. it speeds up to the point where i can actually hear it. is this normal cooling for when it gets hot? Should i get a new HSF because i can if i need to but i dont think i should because i will be getting a AM2 soon. thanks for any advice

it does it when i am playing gunz and when surfing the net. i accidentaly clicked a link and it went to a p0rn site so i thought malicous code. but it happens randomly. i think i have a Pres-Hot so i am going to order a artic freezer 7.

a lot of new mobos have software that will adjust fan speed of the cpu to meet the needs of the cpu. for example, my new mobo has MSI's "Cool 'n quiet" technology....if the cpu temps are higher, the fan will spin faster, and vice versa. i wouldn't worry about it.

presscot cpus are bloody hot so if you are going to replace your cpu fan get the best you can afford and some artic silver

Cool'n'Quiet is an AMD technology :)

it sounds like the fan is kicking as and when it should be to me. Keep a close eye on your temps (leave the temp reading app loaded at all times) when the fan kicks in quickly check you cpu temp and see if its high... if it is then thats your answer
